Everything the Reef Has to Offer — In One Glorious Day
Ji-ho Kim booked four seats on the reef pontoon without telling his parents the details. He just said it was a boat cruise. What followed — glass-bottom boats, a semi-submarine, a sea turtle pressing its eye to the glass, and a 67-year-old retired marine engineer who put on a snorkel mask for the first time — became the best day his mother could remember.
The Kim family from Seoul discover that the Great Barrier Reef welcomes everyone — even a grandfather who said he was too old for adventure
Best Time to Visit: May to October is ideal — the dry season brings calm seas, excellent visibility, and no stinger season. June and July are peak months with the most reliable conditions. The reef is accessible year-round but sea conditions and visibility are best in the dry season.
Getting There: Reef pontoon tours depart daily from Cairns Marina (Reef Fleet Terminal). Pick-up from Port Douglas hotels is available on selected tours. The journey to the outer reef takes approximately 90 minutes by fast catamaran. Pre-booking is essential, especially from June to August.
