West from Cairns past the Tablelands we can find the Gulf Savannah, an outback area of North Queensland. One popular tourist destination is the Undara Volcanic National Park where the oldest and best preserved lava tube system in the world is situated. It has a resort made out of old railway carriage-s and a camp ground and the Undara Lodge holds special events like “Opera in the Outback” etc.
The other tourist area is Chillagoe with it’s lime caves ,quality blue and pink marbles and historical sites from the gold and copper mining past. Tallaroo or Innot Hot Spring are famous for their thermal water, Cobbold gorge from it’s cruise and Karumba in the Gulf of Carpentaria from it’s fishing.
A train ride on the Gulflander to Croydon is also a popular activity.
